Girls Urged To Persist On Pathway To Success

FEMALE students from public and private schools throughout New Providence and the Family Islands attended the 10th annual Girls Leadership Conference at Melia Nassau Resort.

#Held on March 14, the conference was organised by Therena Cunningham of STRAW Inc Centre for Young Women (Strengthening, Transforming, Restoring, Affirming young Women). It brought together sixth-grade junior and senior high school girls from New Providence and the Family Islands. Speakers at the event included Education Minister Jerome Fitzgerald, and AnnMarie Davis, wife of Philip Davis, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Works and Urban Development.

#The theme for the conference was: “The Yellow Brick Road” taken from the novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz by L Frank Baum.

#Minister Fitzgerald told the girls to be persistent, have stability, confidence and faith on their pathway to success.

#“In life you too will follow a road and you will need to decide what your guidelines will be, because like Dorothy, you will face obstacles along the way that you will not overcome. The journey along the yellow brick road to success involves four elements. These are persistence, stability, confidence and faith,” he said.

#He advised the young ladies that they would become the caring mothers, competent nation builders, capable policy makers and creative entrepreneurs. However, he said this can only occur if they continue to follow the brick road to success.
